What we see in Evergreen flooring

Mountain floors take a beating, so they have to be planned for.

Between snow, grit, dogs, dry air, and big sun through the glass, floors in Evergreen work harder than floors down in the city. The right product and the right prep are most of the job. Here is what we plan for.

Evergreen sits at about 7,162 feet elevation, in the foothills first settled in 1859 near Bear Creek and Evergreen Lake. The dry air and strong sun at this altitude, plus sloped lots and lower levels, drive most of the flooring choices we make up here.

Acclimating wood at altitude

The dry mountain air makes wood move. Real and engineered wood needs to sit in the home before it goes down, so we acclimate it, set the right expansion gaps, and keep the floor from cupping or gapping through the seasons.

Big sun and UV fade

Great rooms with tall view-facing glass take strong high-altitude UV. Some floors fade fast in that light, so we help you pick colors and finishes that hold their look, especially on south and west walls.

Floors that take snow and grit

Mudrooms, entries, and dog paths see snow, sand, and pine needles all winter. We steer those areas to tile or a tough luxury vinyl plank so the floor still looks good in spring.

Moisture on lower levels

A walkout or a slab lower level can take on moisture even on a sloped lot. We test before we install, prep the subfloor, and pick a product and underlayment rated for it, so the floor does not buckle.

Wide-plank in vaulted rooms

Big vaulted great rooms look best with a wide-plank floor that matches the scale of the room. We plan the layout and the runs so the boards flow through the open space instead of chopping it up.

Stairs and transitions

Mountain homes have levels, landings, and lots of stairs. We handle the stair treads, the transitions between rooms, and the tie-in to tile at the hearth so the whole floor reads as one.

Evergreen flooring questions

What homeowners ask us.

What flooring holds up best in an Evergreen mountain home?
It depends on the room, but durable floors win up here. Snow, grit, dogs, and big sun through the windows are hard on floors, so we often steer people to wide-plank engineered wood, tile, or good luxury vinyl plank, and we tell you the trade-offs for your home.
Does the altitude affect wood floors?
It can. The dry mountain air at this elevation makes wood move, so real wood needs to acclimate in the home before it goes down. We let it sit, we set the right gaps, and that keeps the floor from cupping or gapping later.
My great room gets tons of sun. Will the floor fade?
South- and west-facing rooms with big mountain views take strong high-altitude UV, which fades some floors. We help you pick colors and finishes that hold up, and we can talk through window film if fade is a worry.
Can you put hard flooring in a basement or walkout?
Yes. Lower levels and slabs need a moisture check first, since a walkout on a foothills lot can still take on water. We test, prep, and pick a product and underlayment rated for it so the floor lasts.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. JAC Enterprise is licensed and insured. License and insurance details come with your written estimate.
